FIELD SERVICE MANAGER – $77,000 Plus per year – Higher pay with experience
The Field Service Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing the field service team in the repair, maintenance, and servicing of forklifts, material handling equipment, and small construction machinery.
This hands-on leadership role requires the manager to actively participate in equipment repair and service work alongside the team, while also ensuring high-quality, timely, and safe service delivery to customers.
The position drives departmental efficiency, profitability, technician development, and customer satisfaction.
The Field Service Manager directly supervises lead technicians and field service technicians, managing daily operations, resource allocation, and performance in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Directly supervise, mentor, and lead a team of field service technicians (including lead techs), providing guidance, performance feedback, coaching, and development to ensure consistent high performance and skill growth.
- Assist with recruiting, interviewing, hiring, training, and evaluating field service personnel; also assist with performance reviews, counseling, and disciplinary actions as needed.
- Ensure work orders are given out based on technician skills.
- Oversee daily field operations, including monitoring job progress.
- Ensure all service activities comply with company safety policies, OSHA regulations, manufacturer guidelines, and industry best practices; promote and enforce safe work habits, including proper use of tools, vehicles, and PPE.
- Maintain strong customer relationships by resolving escalated complaints, conducting follow-ups, preparing accurate repair quotes, and pursuing opportunities to develop additional service business.
- Manage departmental P&L elements, including labor efficiency, parts inventory control, warranty administration, and cost control to meet or exceed profitability targets.
- Monitor key performance metrics such as first-time fix rate, response time, customer satisfaction scores, technician productivity, and billable hours; implement improvements as needed.
- Coordinate with parts, sales, rental, and shop service teams to ensure seamless support for field operations.
- Oversee fleet vehicle maintenance, tool inventory, and technician equipment needs to keep the team fully equipped.
- Stay current on technical advancements in forklifts, material handling systems, and small construction equipment; facilitate ongoing technician training and certification programs.
- Participate in on-call rotation or emergency response as required to support critical customer needs.
Other Requirements
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; ability to safely operate forklifts and company vehicles.
- Proficiency with service software.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, motivational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with occasional overtime, weekends, or on-call duties.
- Forklift certification (or willingness to obtain) and knowledge of OSHA safety standards.
